UK Signs Over Piece of Land to Cyprus

Cyprus and the UK signed an agreement transferring to the island a piece of land owned by the UK for the amount of EUR8.6 million.

This is a land located in the Zygi area of approximately 350,000 m2 and in which a port will be created to serve industrial and energy needs. The agreement was signed by Marios Demetriades, minister, transport, communications and works, Cyprus, and by Gareth Wilmot, minister, defense, UK.

Commenting on the agreement, Demetriades said, “[The agreement] shows that there is cooperation between the two countries and through this cooperation we can achieve many positive results.” He thanked the UK government, in particular the ministries of foreign affairs and defense, and Matthew Kid, high commissioner, UK, for their positive response to the land acquisition process.
