Demolition work at the Larnaca – Dhekelia road site began on May 03 and is anticipated to take three months as Petrolina’s petroleum facilities are relocated from Larnaca to Vasiliko.
Storage Tank No. 15 was built in 1972 with a height of 19.5 m, a diameter of 60.96 m and a total capacity of 56,913 m3, is the biggest petroleum storage tank ever built and used in Cyprus, according to Petrolina.
A ceremony attended by dignitaries including Nicos Anastasiades, president, Cyprus, marked the demolition’s start.
The demolition and clean-up of the area will be carried out by TETCO Group/Tahan, a company active in the Middle East, North and East Africa region which designs, engineers and constructs energy infrastructure projects, and which has also undertaken additional construction work at Petrolina’s fuel storage facilities at Vasiliko.
Dinos Lefkaritis, executive director, Petrolina (Holdings) Public Ltd, commented, “All of Petrolina’s efforts are focussed on completing the relocation schedule to Vasiliko within the agreed timeframes, with infrastructure that will make a substantial contribution to our country’s economic growth over the next decades.”
