A study by European Environment Agency (EEA) and European Commission, which assesses the cleanness of bathing waters across European Union (EU) countries, indicated that Cyprus holds the second position, after Luxembourg, regarding the cleanliness of its waters.

According to the report, 99 percent of Cyprus’ sites have been certified as excellent, well above the EU average of 85 percent.

Hans Bruyninckx, executive director, EEA,  commented, “It is encouraging to see that more and more bathing water sites across Europe are meeting the highest quality standards. […] It also shows the effectiveness of our environmental policies and the practical benefits to human health protection and our daily lives when excellent data collection and analysis are conducted.”
