Cyprus, Greece and Egypt Set Environmental Policies

On May 29, Nicos Kouyialis, agriculture, rural development and environment minister, Cyprus, met with Khaled Fahmy, environment minister, Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency, and Socrates Famellos, environment and energy minister, Greece, in Cairo to share views on environmental policies in their countries.

During the meeting, the delegates adopted a joint statement and agreed on the implementation of specific measures in five priority areas, including the protection of the Mediterranean Sea and the readiness to handle an undesired pollution incident from the intense exploratory activity for hydrocarbons.

Additionally, actions to be adopted in the fields of the management of domestic solid waste were also discussed. Kouyialis invited his counterparts to hold the next meeting in Nicosia in September.
