Ayia Napa Hosts International Soccer Festival

Over 6,000 players aged between six and 16 and representing 350 teams, including 22 overseas academies, recently participated at the recently-held 18th Ayia Napa Soccer Festival.

Describing the event as the Mediterranean’s largest football academy tournament, Ayia Napa Municipality said it had been a great success.

The tournament took place at the Municipality’s athletics centre between March 31 and April 05 and was organised by Soccer World Cyprus, under the auspices of Cyprus Football Association and Ayia Napa Municipality.

Sponsored by Cyprus Tourism Organisation, this year’s tournament was dedicated to Fair Play. Also supported by Cyprus Sports Organisation, it was enjoyed by over 20,000 spectators.

Commenting on the event’s success, Yiannis Karousos, mayor, Ayia Napa, said the municipality would continue to support both the tournament and sports tourism in general as large happenings such as this one were proven to extend the tourism season.
