Paphos Handed Over the Title of European Capital

The ceremony of the European Capitals of Culture title, in the subsequent Capitals of Culture Valletta and Leeuwarden took place at Markideio on December 29, 2017.

At the ceremony, the president of the republic was represented by the minister of education and culture, Kostas Kadis, who expressed his thanks and congratulations to the Pafos Organisation 2017 for the successful implementation of the institution, stressing in particular the fact that the European Union itself considers Paphos as an example for other cities as well.

Greetings were delivered by the Phedonas Phedonos, mayor, Paphos and Christos Patsalides, chairman, Pafos 2017, both expressing their satisfaction for the successful organisation of the European Capital of Culture event. Moreover, they mentioned the fact that the cultural year, 2017, will remain as a year-long station for Paphos and Cyprus.
